Speedmaster XL 105 - User Report: Cosack GmbH & Co. KG Druck + Verpackung
Cosack GmbH & Co. KG Druck + Verpackung, a packaging printer in
Arnsberg, Germany, is securing stable growth with larger print runs
and a broad customer and product portfolio. Its latest acquisition
is a six-color Speedmaster XL 105 with coating unit from
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg). The press has already
produced over ten million sheets and noticeably increased
productivity compared to the machine it replaced.
The printing company has grown steadily in recent years. The
core clientele consists of household appliance makers and companies
in the textile, phar-
maceutical and food industries, as well as toy makers and
suppliers to the automotive industry. The average run size at Cosak
is about 10,000 sheets; printed only on board from 250 to 750 gram
per square meter. But even for successful printing outfits like
Cosack, it is getting harder to do well in the market - profits are
falling. The only way out those in charge of the Arnsberg plant see
is to lower production costs by increasing productivity. The
reliability at high speeds and the short make-ready times of the
Speedmaster XL 105 make this possible. A further crucial aspects
that tipped the scales in favor of the Speedmaster XL 105 was its
format: 75 x 105 centimeter. "In many cases, what really makes
the difference is whether we can fit four or more ups on each sheet
instead of two," explains Jürgen Kocks, Co-Manager at
Cosack.
The performance of the Speedmaster XL 105 was evaluated by
comparing it in a test series with similar presses from other
manufacturers. "We di-
vided a job up into three batches and produced them on the
presses. The Speedmaster XL 105 was the only one that really
convinced us by actually completing a job with overprint varnish to
the required standard of quality at top speed. The two other
presses simply couldn't compete," reports Co-Manager Heino
Künkenrenken. Now Cosack's goal is to shift as many jobs as
possible to the Speedmaster XL 105, because it runs far more
cost-effectively than the company's other presses. Its high level
of automation also turns shorter runs into a lucrative endeavor by
shortening the make-ready process.
"Today we unanimously think that the decision for the
Speedmaster XL 105 was the right one, and that it has greatly
improved our competitiveness. Modern equipment is key to our
success," concludes Peter Kleine-Cosack, the company's
Founder and Managing Partner.
